My Code Was in a Car Crash. Here’s What it Taught me About B2B Sales.

My friend is retrofitting a 29-year-old electric vehicle by replacing the battery pack with modern cells. I wrote a program that keeps the car happy by pretending to be the original battery pack, and controls a gauge in the dashboard. My code runs in my friend’s car whenever the car is on.

Yesterday the car was totaled in a collision caused by another driver. Thankfully, my friend is alright. The car is a loss. It felt special to know that my program was running inside a real car, but somehow it seems even more uncommon that my program ran in a car that got in a collision.

My program currently runs in one other car that I know of. My first foray into automotive programming has a 50% collision rate.
