Inspired by my friend Elizabeth’s post “If I wasn’t a structural engineer”, here are some other careers that would be fun:
- Sound engineer: I’ve dabbled in audio production for myself, and I love attending concerts. Working at a venue or touring with an artist would be an exciting atmosphere with engaging technical challenges.
- High school teacher: I think teaching math or computer science would be a fulfilling (if busy) way to spend my time.
- Transit operator: I love rail transit, and buses are pretty cool too. I admire and appreciate the transit operators who help me get around my city, and I would like to be one of them.
- Theater instructor: I loved working five summers at theater day camp, and if I could do it year-round I don’t think I’d love it any less.
- Copy editor: This would be a way of monetizing my pedantry, but I’d definitely need to do additional study before I would be ready. Much to my disappointment, I’m not sure if copy editors really exist these days.
- Line cook: In college I had a year of experience in a dining co-op which used a commercial kitchen. I think working in the high-stress environment of a professional kitchen would excite me.
- Podcaster: I listen to a lot of podcasts, and I admire the ways the hosts argue and entertain. I’d enjoy discussing things that matter to me.
